Question: I'm a Colombian student and I've recently finished my studies at one of the best schools in our country, LA QUINTA DEL PUENTE. I'm a very good student at my school and my grades are really high. I've achieved nice results at the national exam ICFES and I've participated in national contests of mathematics and physics and, by the way, I have a good control over the english language. I'm very interested in focusing my profesional studies around biological sciences, and even more interested in doing them in a prestigious Russian university. I have witnessed how good Russian universities are, for instance my father studied at UDN -Moscow- and we both feel a big interest towards St. Petersburg University. Since I'm Colombian, which are the requirements I need to be admitted and to participate for a scholarchip. Also I'd like to have more information about your university, your laboratories, and basically your science programm and the! way St. Petersburg University does stuff at the science department.

The answer of Head of Admission Directorate Egor Yablokov: As specified in the Governmental decree of Russian Federation (October, 8 2013 № 891 "On Fixing an Education Quota for Foreign Nationals and Stateless Citizens in the Russian Federation".), foreign citizens are provided an opportunity to take part in an Open Competition for state-funded educational places at the SPbU (funded from the budget of Russian Federation). List of required documents and deadlines for application are published here. Also recommend you to read the Regulations for an Open Competition Among International Applicants, Essay topics and Requirements for documents

Foreign applicants can submit the documents for the Open competition to the Admission office for foreign citizens in person, send by post to the address: 199034 St. Petersburg, 7/9 Universitetskaya naberezhnaya, Admission office SPbU, or send them per the Personal Applicant’s Account on the SPbU Admission office web site www.abiturient.spbu.ru.

Please, point out that all Bachelor programs are taught in the Russian language. A preparatory course of Russian lasts 10 months. Upon completion of the course students obtain a graduation certificate from SPbU. As well, they can take a state examination “Test of Russian as Foreign Language” (TORFL) and obtain a certificate of a correspondent level which is needed to apply for studies at the SPbU. More detailed information about the foundation course and a full list of programs offered you can find here. All foreign students are provided with a place in dormitories with costs about 5 Euros per month (for government-funded basis) and 60 Euros per month (for fee-paying basis). Living costs (nutrition, transport and so on) are about 300-350 Euros per month.

If you have any questions, please, don’t hesitate to contact Admission office for foreign applicant admission@spbu.ru, +7 (812) 328-32-91.
