Information about a course

Question: Dear Sir/ Madam,

I come from Italy (Südtirol). At the moment I am attending the Dallam School in Cumbria (United Kingdom), where I am taking the International Baccalaureate.
I am writing to ask, if you are running a course of European Studies for the Bachelor degree as well, as I have just come across the homepage for the Master degree in European Studies.
If so, I would like to ask if it might be possible to tell me exactly how many IB points are needed to apply for your European Studies course and which subjects would be involved in.
I would  even be pleased to know whether you offer Russian for beginners, as I already have a prior basic knowledge in the Russian language (this in the European Studies faculty).

The answer of Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs Ekaterina Babelyuk:

Indeed, in the field of study "41.04.05 International Relations" we do have program "European Studies", but only for a Master degree. Bachelor program calls "International Relations" and covers general question of international relations, including European studies, as well as American studies, Asian studies, World Politics, etc.

All bachelor programs are taught in Russian, so, you have to pass TORFL-1 (Test of Russian as Foreign Language).

If you do not know Russian language good enough, we advise you to take before a preparation course in Russian language, as far as the medium of instruction in all Bachelor programs is Russian.

At the Russian Language and Culture Institute of Saint-Petersburg University you may learn Russian as a foreign language. A preparation course in Russian lasts 10 months. Upon completion of the course students obtain a graduation certificate. As well, they can take a state examination "Test of Russian as Foreign Language" (TORFL) and obtain a certificate of a correspondent level (TORFL 1 for Bachelor programs, TORFL 2 – for MA programs) which is needed to apply for studies at the SPbU. They also have a lot of other different courses and programs.

Course participants are provided with a place in dormitories in a Saint-Petersburg’s satellite Peterhof.

More detailed information about the foundation course and a full list of programs offered you can find here. You also contact them directly by e-mail: info@rlci.spbu.ru.
