On admission to St Petersburg University

Published Date:

To whoever it may concern, Hopefully you are doing good. I have been having a question about the admission procedure in the university. Currently i have two nationalities, the mexican and russian. I am not sure with which nationality apply.

If i apply as a russian its necessary, the performance of the state exam? I have studied in Mexico and currently studying the russian language in the University of St. Petersburg.

Thank you for your time. Best regards

The answer of Aleksandr Babich, Vice‑Rector for Student Affairs and Admissions:

In accordance with Part 1 of Article 10 of Federal Law No. 138-FZ dated 04/28/2023 "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation", a citizen of the Russian Federation who has dual citizenship or multiple citizenship is considered by the Russian Federation, as a general rule, only as a citizen of the Russian Federation, regardless of his place of residence.

On the basis of the above-mentioned federal regulatory legal act, you have the right to enroll in St Petersburg University to study at places for citizens of the Russian Federation and persons with equal rights with them. Detailed admission information for the 2025/26 academic year about places for citizens of the Russian Federation and persons with equal rights with them will be published at the website of the University no later than January 20, 2025. When applying for bachelor’s and specialist’s degree programmes, applicants who have received a document on general education from a foreign organization have the right to take entrance exams conducted by St. Petersburg State University (using distance technologies) in subjects for which such applicants have not took the Unified State Exam.
